Aurora, Colo. (Jan. 4, 2017) – Residents of Thornton now have a new option for health care close to home. To better meet the needs of the community, UCHealth is converting a freestanding emergency room location at 136th Ave. and Colorado Blvd. to an urgent care. The new urgent care clinic opened to care for patients on Jan. 3.
UCHealth offers an emergency room location at 120th Ave. and Colorado Blvd, so together with the new urgent care location, the community now has comprehensive options for care.
“It is important for patients to have access to the most appropriate level of care, close to home,” said Lori Japp, physician assistant and UCHealth VP of urgent care. “Urgent care locations offer extended and weekend hours, and they are a more affordable option. For these reasons, they can be a great option for patients who need non-emergency care.”
The urgent care location on 136th Ave. provides care from expert physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. It will also offer laboratory services and x-ray capabilities. With this expertise, patients can receive care for a wide variety of illnesses and injuries including:
- Sprains, strains or possible broken bones
- Headaches
- Sore throats and coughs
- Ear infections
- Fever and flu symptoms
- Minor burns
- Rashes
- Abdominal pain and vomiting
- Lacerations
- Animal bites
Patients at this location will have access to UCHealth’s full network of care including primary care clinics, ERs and hospital-based care. The urgent care will open with extended hours of 8:00am – 8:00pm, Monday through Friday, and 9:00am – 5:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
