Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
UCHealth EMS combines the latest technology and innovation to provide 911 emergency ambulance services as well as interfacility transportation, critical care ground transport services, air medical operations, event medicine, and community paramedics with the skilled care of trusted EMDs, EMTs, paramedics and nurses.
Northern Colorado Prehospital Protocols
The Northern Colorado Prehospital Protocols (NCPP) are derived from the Denver Metro EMS protocols approved by the DMEMSMD group. These protocols are representative of the standard of care for EMS providers with outlined practices for common emergencies consistent with the clinical expectations of the Medical Directors.

A regional leader
UCHealth EMS has provided specialized medical transport services for patients in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska for over 40 years.
Our EMS program features a highly-trained staff with diverse professional backgrounds, and we’re the only EMS provider in the region to offer four levels of care—making us a leader in meeting your patient transport needs day or night.
CAAS accreditation
We are the only EMS service in northern Colorado to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulances Services (CAAS). This accreditation signifies that UCHealth EMS meets the “gold standard” determined by the ambulance industry to be essential in a modern emergency medical services provider.
EMS Communications Center
The UCHealth EMS Communications Center—radio call sign UCHEALTH— is one of the busiest EMS communications centers in the region, with requests for services coming from over 30 health care facilities and three 911 PSAPS that dispatch over 38,000 calls for service per year and over 72,000 phone calls annually.
The center dispatches all ambulances in the northern Colorado UCHealth system, manages requests for service for our Community Paramedics division, and provides a host of other services to the community and to the medical centers that require advanced infrastructure and radio and voice recording capabilities.
All telephone lines, including both emergency and non-emergency phone lines, as well as hospital numbers, are digitally recorded, as are all radio transmissions to and from the EMS Communications Center.
We have the ability to communicate on various VHF, UHF, and 800 MHz systems with a variety of public safety agencies in and close to our community.
The EMS Communications Center is also a vital link to our UCHealth facilities, responsible for moving patients throughout the UCHealth system.
