About our Program

The purpose of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center is to build on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center is an ASHP-accredited, 12 month, full-time postgraduate program that offers experiences with diverse patient populations, a variety of disease states and a range of patient problems. The program provides an environment that is supportive of learning and training for the resident to achieve the purpose, goals and objectives of the residency program and to progress over the course of the residency to be more efficient, effective, and able to work independently in providing direct patient care.  The resident will develop knowledge and skills in four primary competency areas:

  • Patient care
  • Advancing practice and improving patient care
  • Leadership and management
  • Teaching, education and dissemination of knowledge

Orientation

Required concentrated experiences
  • Internal medicine (5 weeks)
  • Cardiology (5 weeks)
  • Critical care (6 weeks)
  • Emergency medicine (6 weeks) 
  • Anticoagulation (5 weeks, with 7 days at outpatient anticoagulation clinic)
  • Antimicrobial stewardship (4 weeks)
  • Nutrition support (1-week concentration followed by 4 weeks of adult TPN management concurrent with another learning experience)
Required longitudinal experiences
  • Major project (46 weeks, at least 1 day per month is a dedicated project day)
  • Pharmacy administration (46 weeks, 1-3 days dedicated at minimum every other month)
  • Precepting (11-month longitudinal experience, variable times pending pharmacy school student schedule)
  • Staffing (12 weekends, twenty-four 10-hour shifts in the main pharmacy or IV room) 
Elective experiences
  • Ambulatory care (8-week longitudinal experience, eight 10-hour shifts on Mondays)
  • Psychiatry at CMHIP (4 weeks)
  • Advanced rotation in any of the core rotations: cardiology, antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacy administration, critical care, emergency medicine, internal medicine (4 weeks)

  • Staffing
    • Resident will staff 12 weekends throughout the year, which is approximately every third weekend. The resident will work a 10-hour day or mid-shift in the main inpatient pharmacy both Saturday and Sunday of their scheduled staffing weekend. The resident will be expected to work two holidays. Holidays observed by UCHealth are: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

    • Eligible for employment in the United States
    • Graduate of an ACPE accredited Doctor of Pharmacy Degree Program
    • Obtain Pharmacist License in the state of Colorado within the first 60 days of employment and no later than September 1
    • Successful completion of background check and drug screen

  • All complete applications will be reviewed by the Residency Program Director and Residency Advisory Committee. Candidates will be selected and invited for in-person or virtual interview and given further directions at that time.
Faculty
  • Leticia Ritz, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP- Residency Program Coordinator
    • Leticia obtained her Master of Science degree in Toxicology from Colorado State University, Fort Collins. She later graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Regis University School of Pharmacy in 2016 and went on to complete her PGY1 residency training at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center in 2017. She is board-certified in pharmacotherapy and critical care and currently practices as a Clinical Pharmacist in Critical Care and Emergency Medicine. She has played an integral role in advancing pharmacy services to include response to codes, traumas and development of the Clinical ED Pharmacist shift. She remains dedicated to providing optimal patient care and serves on many multidisciplinary committees at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center and within the UCHealth network. Leticia became the Residency Coordinator in 2023 and serves as the primary preceptor for the PGY1 Critical Care rotation at UCH Parkview Medical Center. When not working, Leticia can be found spending time with her husband, two daughters and three dogs.   • Matthew Thielbar, PharmD, BCPS- Director of Pharmacy
    • Matt received his Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Colorado School of Pharmacy in 2007. In 2010, he became a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. From April 2007-June 2015, he worked at UCHealth Parkview as a staff/clinical pharmacist. In June 2015, he accepted a position as Clinical Manager for the pharmacy. Starting February of 2021, he became the Director of Pharmacy for UCHealth Parkview. Matt is responsible for overseeing all pharmacy services including, Inpatient, Retail, Residency, Anticoagulation Clinic and UCHealth Parkview Pueblo West Pharmacy. Matt is a key member of numerous hospital committees and teams. Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, Karla, two boys, Landon and Logan, and two dogs, Ruger (Beagle) and Kimber (Weimaraner).   • Kimberly Arline, RPh, M.Ed
    • Kim started her career in pharmacy in the US Army after graduating from University of Colorado School of Pharmacy in 1990.  She spent six years in Army Pharmacy in Germany and Monterey, California. Kim came to UCHealth Parkview in 1999 as a part time pharmacist and full time mom and community volunteer. She served in several community leadership roles promoting health and wellness writing grants and policy for trails and bike lanes and hosts community running and cycling events since 2007. At UCHealth Parkview she has been involved in revamping Nutrition Support and TPN programs, Adverse Drug Reaction monitoring and Get with the Guidelines for Cardiac Care. She has worked in the Anticoagulation Clinic since 2009 and conducted a study that was published in 2019 and presented at several lab and pharmacy conferences. In 2021, Kim took over as the Chairperson for the UCHealth Parkview Institutional Review Board (IRB) and works with investigators from multiple disciplines, residencies and fellowships. In 2022, she took over the hospital Antibiotic Stewardship program and pursued advanced training, obtaining SIDP certification. Outside of work, Kim enjoys traveling, cycling, running, off-road triathlon, paddling rivers and lakes, and being active outdoors.   • Lisa Clodfelter, PharmD, BCPS
    • Lisa is the inpatient pharmacy supervisor and one of the preceptors for the PGY1 Pharmacy Administration rotation. Lisa earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Colorado. Before becoming a supervisor, she was a staff/clinical pharmacist for 10 years and helped develop the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at UCHealth Parkview before the first class began. She has served as a preceptor in many areas throughout her career and continued to advance her education by obtaining her BCPS in 2019. Outside of work, Lisa can be found doing various projects at home, cheering for her kids or exploring the great outdoors with her family and dog. [email protected]
  • Shonna Coy, PharmD, BCPS
    • Shonna is a Pueblo native and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Colorado State University-Pueblo. She then achieved her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy in 2012 and joined the UCHealth Parkview Medical Center staff upon graduation. Shonna is the preceptor for the Nutrition Support rotation, and she is board-certified in pharmacotherapy and has also obtained the ASPEN Nutrition Support Certificate. She received the UCHealth Parkview Starburst award in 2023 and was recognized by the hospital for providing outstanding care. Not only is she dedicated to providing the highest level of patient care being a clinical pharmacist, but she is also involved in maintaining pharmacy policies, workflows and more. Outside of work Shonna enjoys reading, exercising, spending time with her family and cuddling with her dogs. [email protected]
  • Heather Flores, PharmD, BCACP
    • Heather is a preceptor for the Orientation, Staffing and Ambulatory care rotations. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Regis University School of Pharmacy in 2014 and has been with UCHealth Parkview Medical Center inpatient and outpatient pharmacies since then. Heather started the pilot program for the Ambulatory care position at the UCHealth Parkview Internal Medicine Clinic at UCHealth Parkwest in 2022 and received her Board Certification in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy in 2024. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys going to the local zoo, children’s museum and library. [email protected]
  • Kelli Frame, PharmD, BCPS, BCEMP
    • Kelli received her Bachelor of Science degree from her home state of Michigan at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. She then pursued her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Colorado-Denver in 2010. She continued her advanced education, obtaining her BCPS in 2021 and her BCEMP in 2023, and currently oversees the Cardiology learning experience. She joined the pharmacy team at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center in 2010, following her husband back to his hometown of Pueblo, Colorado. Kelli enjoys the fast-paced life of hospital pharmacy and fills up her spare time with other fun activities. She loves to travel the world but also to explore the outdoors including hitting up all the national parks. In those peaceful moments at home, she is working towards building a bird-bug-butterfly friendly garden for humans to enjoy. [email protected]
  • Whitney Salem, PharmD, BCPS
    • Whitney earned her Doctor of Pharmacy at University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy in 2019. After graduation, she completed a PGY1 residency at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center in 2019-2020 and remained on staff to eventually precept in the same program she graduated from. She continued to further her education and pursuit of providing the highest level of patient care by obtaining her BCPS in 2023. Whitney is the primary preceptor for both Internal Medicine and the elective Advanced Internal Medicine learning experiences and has served as a poster mentor and research project mentor over the years.   • Zenobia Tang, PharmD
    • Zenobia is originally from Southern California where she completed her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Riverside. She then received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Roseman University of Health Sciences in South Jordan, Utah in 2019. She pursued a PGY1 pharmacy residency at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center in 2019-2020. Since completing her residency, she has been working at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center and has remained active in the residency program as a preceptor for Anticoagulation and serving as a mentor on posters and research projects. In her free time, she loves to travel, try new foods, snowboard and experience all things Disney. [email protected]
  • Geri Weinstein, PharmD, BCPS
    • Geri obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy in 2011, and she joined the team at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center in 2012 as a staff pharmacist. Geri has been a preceptor with the residency program since its inception in 2016 and serves as a preceptor for staffing. She has been responsible for onboarding and training new pharmacists and obtained her BCPS in 2019. Geri enjoys spending her time with her wife and twin boys, traveling and seeing musicals. Residency Program Director

Krista Sanchez

Krista is the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Director and clinical pharmacist that practices primarily in the Emergency Department and Critical Care units. Krista is a Pueblo native, and began as a pharmacy technician at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center in 2010. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Colorado State University- Pueblo, and then obtained her Doctorate of Pharmacy from University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2016. Krista was part of the inaugural class of PGY1 Pharmacy Residents at UCHealth Parkview Medical Center and graduated from the program in 2017. Krista has remained at UCHealth Parkview since graduating as a resident, and has served as a preceptor for the Emergency Medicine learning experience prior to taking on her role as Residency Program Director in 2021. Krista is board-certified in Pharmacotherapy and Critical Care, and is dedicated to continuously improving the residency program through advancing pharmacy services; she has played a valuable role in various protocol developments, implementation of pharmacists in codes and traumas, and initiation of a clinical pharmacist in the emergency department. Krista enjoys spending her free time reading, cuddling her dogs, and spending time with her friends, family and husband.
