Specialized services: epilepsy monitoring, telestroke
Epilepsy monitoring
The advanced equipment in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, or EMU, allows our epileptologists to monitor patients’ brain activity 24 hours per day to help diagnose and then construct the best treatment plan. Our University of Colorado faculty neurologists are board certified in neurology and epilepsy with years of experience in diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.
Patients in the EMU are connected to continuous video EEG monitoring which allows our specialists to closely monitor the electrical activity in their brains in-between and during events. Often, if they are on anti-epileptic medication, these will be stopped during the admission so there is a greater probability of event capture.
If epilepsy is confirmed, our epilepsy specialists may adjust treatment plan as needed to ensure the patient receives the ideal treatment regimen.
Telestroke
Telestroke enables neuro specialists to consult with our ER physicians via video conferencing so we can treat stroke patients in record time, saving precious brain cells.
