At UCHealth Memorial Hospital North in Colorado Springs, our radiation oncology department is nationally accredited, with an entire treatment team dedicated to providing you with the most compassionate, highest-quality radiation oncology care in the region.

Our program is university-affiliated; here, you’ll have access to the experts at University of Colorado Cancer Center in metro Denver, the only comprehensive cancer center in Colorado designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and one of just 54 in the country.

Unlike other hospitals that have general radiation oncologists, our radiation oncologists specialize in certain cancers. This means that your radiation oncologist has extensive experience in your particular kind of cancer – and more experience often leads to better outcomes.

Comprehensive cancer care

Your radiation oncologist will collaborate with all of your cancer doctors to provide up-to-date, coordinated, multidisciplinary care. They also participate in Memorial’s weekly multidisciplinary clinics and conferences for breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancers and central nervous system/spine tumors; as well as a weekly thoracic tumor conference.

University of Colorado affiliation

Memorial’s radiation oncologists are all full-time faculty members of the University of Colorado School of Medicine. We leverage this relationship to provide the highest possible level of care to our patients right here in Colorado Springs. This relationship also gives our patients access to national and University of Colorado clinical trials.

We have facilities at both Memorial Central and Memorial North. We are the only provider of radiation oncology services in northern Colorado Springs. Because of our close relationship with nationally-renowned specialists, we can deliver the most sophisticated radiation oncology treatment, even if yours is a very complicated case.

Services and treatments

At Memorial Hospital North, we treat virtually all types of cancer, including pediatric cancer, using a full range of radiation modalities and techniques, including:

  • Deep-inspiration breath hold (DIBH) and an optical surface monitoring system (OSMS) to maximize safety of breast cancer treatment through avoidance of heart irradiation.
  • Ingested or injected radioisotope (nuclear medicine) cancer therapies.
  • Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) with daily image guidance.
  • Intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) for low-risk breast cancer.
  • High-dose-rate brachytherapy treatment for gynecologic cancers.
  • High-end radiation machines, including Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators.
  • PET-CT simulator.
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery for treating brain tumors, AVMs and other lesions of the brain.
  • Stereotactic body radiation therapy for targeting small cancers with very localized, high doses of radiation.
