UCHealth expands access to care with 28 new providers in northern Colorado

New caregivers offer expertise in specialties ranging from internal medicine and neurology to general surgery and critical care

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Sept. 26, 2017) – Twenty-eight new providers joined UCHealth teams in northern Colorado in July and August alone, boosting access to health care from Longmont to Fort Collins.

Their specialties range from internal medicine and women’s care to neurology, pulmonology and critical care medicine.

All of the providers will be caring for patients as part of UCHealth Medical Group.

Drs. Vincent Ciampa, Aiman Rauf, Anita Ritenour, Peter Urffer and Jennifer Weiskopf joined the hospital medicine team at UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital, which officially opened Aug. 31 at 1750 E. Ken Pratt Blvd. in Longmont.

Dr. Vincent Ciampa

Ciampa believes the most important aspect of medicine in today’s society isn’t an expensive lab test or imaging study but rather a simple conversation between the physician and patient. The patient’s history remains the most critical aspect of any encounter in medicine, he said, and access to laboratory data and imaging are there to aid in confirmation of a diagnosis.

Ciampa’s clinical interests include cardiology, heart failure, critical care medicine and prevention and wellness. He is especially interested in research on heart failure and hospital readmission rates.

He earned a medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan. He completed a residency in internal medicine at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mt. Clemens, Michigan.

Anita Ritenour

Ritenour strives to ensure communication with her patients and their families is timely and understandable and to advocate with all members of the care team to ensure care is as seamless as possible within the hospital and across transitions into and out of the hospital to home or another health care facility.

Ritenour’s clinic interests include geriatrics, sepsis and reducing hospital-acquired conditions.

She earned a medical degree from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed a residency in internal medicine at Georgetown University Hospital.

Dr. Aiman Rauf

Rauf’s goal of the patient-physician relationship is to establish an equal partnership to prevent further medical consequences and to give the highest level of care and satisfaction to her patients. She is especially interested in asthma, allergies, lifestyle wellness, diabetes management and critical care. She also is interested in research involving best practices when it comes to quality.

She earned a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia. She completed a residency in internal medicine at McLaren Macomb in Mount Clemens, Michigan.

Dr. Peter Urffer

Urffer strives to be a physician who patients can get to know and trust by combining awareness and application of rapidly evolving medical knowledge with an ability to communicate well with patients. His clinical interests include hospital medicine.

Urffer earned a medical degree from University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He also completed a residency at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver

Weiskopf’s patient-centered decisions are guided by evidence-based practices.

Dr. Jennifer Weiskopf

Her clinical interests include hospital medicine and quality improvement. She is especially interested in research on gastroenterology, quality improvement and antibiotic stewardship.

Weiskopf earned a medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. She also completed a residency in internal medicine at University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora.

Drs. Kelli Janata and Robert Janata both joined the pulmonology and critical care team at Longs Peak Hospital.

Dr. Kelli Janata

Specializing in sleep medicine, Kelli Janata believes all patients should be treated as she’d like her own family treated. She is especially interested in caring for patients with obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs, narcolepsy and other hypersomnia disorders. She also embraces the challenges of treating central sleep apnea. Her research interests include obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea and narcolepsy.

“When patients have poor sleep, it affects their entire body and becomes overwhelming and frustrating,” she said. “When patients finally get adequate sleep, the overall effect is amazing.”

Kelli Janata earned a medical degree from Midwestern University/Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, Arizona. She completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.

Dr. Robert Janata

Specializing in pulmonology and critical care medicine, Robert Janata works with patients to identify the best treatment for their pulmonary diseases. He is especially interested in caring for patients with asthma, COPD and advanced bronchoscopy.

He earned a medical degree from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. He also completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.

Dr. Jessica Doty and Dr. Aly Barland joined the dermatology team and are caring for patients at UCHealth Longmont Clinic, 1850 W Mountain View Ave., and UCHealth Carbon Valley Medical Center, 11083 Colorado Blvd., Firestone.

Doty’s clinical interests include general medical dermatology, including acne, psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, as well as skin cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Doty earned a medical degree from University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City. She also completed residencies in internal medicine and dermatology at Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City.

Dr. Simran Grover

Dr. Simran Grover joined the internal medicine team at Longmont Clinic, 1925 W. Mountain View Ave.

Grover believes in caring for patients in a holistic manner by addressing not only medical ailments, but their ability to afford tests and treatments and by emphasizing the importance of a healthy balance between work, family, exercise, sleep and life in general.

Dr. Travis Walker

Dr. Travis Walker joined the general surgery team at Longmont Clinic, 1925 W. Mountain View Ave.

He strives to be a calming influence to his patients during difficult times. He also believes communication with his patients and their family members prior to and after surgery is very important. Dr. Lynn Carlyle

Dr. Lynn Carlyle joined the heart and vascular team at Longmont Clinic, 1925 W. Mountain View Ave.

Dr. Jesse Mortimore

Physician assistants Matt Connally and Chelsea McLean joined the orthopedic team at Longmont Clinic, 1925 W. Mountain View Ave. Both will care for patients in the Longmont and Carbon Valley clinics as well as Longs Peak Hospital.

Matt Connally

Connally’s goal is to make sure every patient is comfortable and confident with all aspects of their care as the care team works to get them back to their active life as soon as possible.

He enjoys all aspects of orthopedics, but he’s especially interested in sports medicine, specifically knee and shoulder injuries. Most of his recent research has focused on biomechanical gender differences in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Connally earned a master’s degree from the University of Charleston physician assistant program in Charleston, West Virginia, and a master’s degree in human biomechanics from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming.

Chelsea McLean

McLean’s top priority is to ensure each patient receives excellent care and service to get them back to living an active, healthy lifestyle. She also encourages and educates those who remain inactive to improve and enhance their current way of life through age and fitness-level appropriate activity.

Her clinical interests include sports medicine, ACL and MCL tears, ankle injuries and developing ways to promote healing while maximizing functional returns in a safe, efficient manner.

McLean earned a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions in Philadelphia.

Dwayne Strong

Physician assistant Dwayne Strong joined the urgent care team at Longmont Clinic, 1925 W. Mountain View Ave.

He believes in providing quality care as efficiently and safely as possible in the urgent care setting. “Acute injuries or illnesses often add to the stress of our busy lives,” he said. “My goal is to help start your treatment and recovery so you feel better faster or get you started in the right direction. Dr. Alejandro Munoz

Dr. Alejandro Munoz joined the UCHealth team and will care for patients at both UCHealth Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinic ‐ Harmony, 2121 E. Harmony Road in Fort Collins, and UCHealth Cheyenne Medical Specialists, 5050 Powderhouse Road, in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

His clinical interests include Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus, insulin pumps, lipids, secondary hypertension, adrenal disorders and metabolic bone disease.

Munoz earned a medical degree from Universidad del Cauca in Popayán, Colombia. He also completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Dr. Barbara Hager

Dr. Barbara Hager joined the team at UCHealth Neurology Clinic and will care for patients at 2315 E. Harmony Road in Fort Collins.

Specializing in neurology, she cares for patients with a broad spectrum of neurological illnesses, but she is especially interested in caring for patients with epilepsy.

Hager earned a medical degree from University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She also completed a residency in neurology at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a clinical neurophysiology/EEG fellowship at University of Chicago.

Dr. Heather Lewis and physician assistant David Gaida joined the team at UCHealth Surgical Clinic – Harmony are caring for patients at 2121 E Harmony Road, Suite 330, in Fort Collins.

Lewis strongly believes in a multidisciplinary teamwork approach aimed at creating an individualized cancer care treatment plan for each patient.

Her clinical interests include the surgical treatment and multidisciplinary care of all solid tumors, including pancreas and liver, sarcoma, endocrine, melanoma, colorectal and peritoneal diseases. Lewis is especially interested in research on gastrointestinal malignancies, particularly pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

She earned a medical degree from University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed postdoctoral training in surgical oncology at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, after finishing her general surgery training at the University of Cincinnati, where she completed a surgical research fellowship.

David Gaida

Gaida strives to treat each patient as if he or she is a member of his own family.

He is interested in all aspects of surgery care, including pre- and post-operative care of patients. His research interests include preventive care for acute and chronic illnesses.

Dr. Joshua Tierney

Dr. Eric Riles

As a clinical cardiac electrophysiology specialist, Riles’ clinical interests include atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, premature ventricular contractions, implantable cardiac defibrillators and pacemakers, prevention of sudden cardiac death, syncope, stroke prevention, anticoagulation and antiarrhythmic drug therapy. Dr. Michelle Keeley

Keeley treasures the opportunity to share in some of life’s most special moments – like childbirth – and support women in the most challenging of times – like pregnancy loss sexually transmitted diseases and sexual assault.

“I find great fulfillment in helping women maintain health, or understand and cope with their conditions. I look forward to the ability to impact the lives of women as a clinician, educator and advocate,” she said.

Keeley earned a medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. She also completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Misti Neil

Neil melds evidence-based practices with compassion to provide her patients with excellent care.

As a certified nurse midwife, she provides the full spectrum of women’s care, including annual exams, gynecologic exams, education, obstetric care and pregnancy care. She especially enjoys obstetric care.

Neil earned a master’s degree in nurse midwifery from University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Dr. Bridget Brown

Dr. Bridget Brown has joined the team at UCHealth Pediatric Care Clinic – Loveland, 2500 Rocky Mountain Ave., Suite 330, South Medical Office Building.

She believes every child should be treated with friendliness and respect. “My goal is to take the time to answer questions and to help families make the best choices for their children,” she said.

Her clinical interests include general pediatric care, child development and children with special health care needs.

Brown earned a medical degree from University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Primary Children’s Hospital at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah.
