Mountain biking tips to prepare for a safe ride

Jan. 23, 2016

The best way to prevent injury during your mountain bike ride is through excellent safety preparation. Follow these mountain biking tips from Dr. Jonathan Bravman to ensure you enjoy a safe and exciting ride.

Match your skill level with the trail you select for your adventure. Assemble your tribe to help you conquer the outdoors, or if you do choose to ride alone be sure to inform someone on the details of your ride. Scout dangerous areas on the trail before you encounter them at full speed; trail maps, guide books, and online reviews are a great way to preview your ride. Pack your safety essentials including food, water, your phone, your GPS, a waterproof trail map, and a repair kit. Practice your falls in safe areas and be ready to tuck and roll during a live fall. Always wear your helmet, stay hydrated, and wear protective gear such as eyewear, gloves, and body armor. Warm up and stretch before you take on the trail. Equipped with the right preparations you’ll be ready for just about anything you encounter on the trail.
