Partnering with patients to explore their personal health goals and envisioning a pathway to a healthy lifestyle is my passion. Helping patients to achieve these goals requires collaboration and teamwork with the entire healthcare network. Every team member’s voice, including and especially the patient’s, must be heard to achieve the most patient-centered solution possible. Health care is a team sport largely built on relationships, trust and a commitment to always meet the patient where they are and put their hopes, desires and goals first.

Delivering safe, quality patient care drives me to keep learning and exploring the innovative solutions being developed during this dynamic period in health care. Identifying more efficient, safe ways to effectively care for each patient and the larger population isn’t a fleeting interest or the goal of one particular group. Instead, improving the quality of the care we deliver is the ever-present, overarching goal of the entire healthcare system. Our community, our friends, our families all deserve a healthcare team committed to innovation, safety and the efficient use of their health care dollars.

After completing medical school in New Orleans I joined the Air Force. Serving our country was an honor, and I’m thankful for the friendships and opportunities this brought during my 14 years in uniform. I spent time stationed in Washington State, Biloxi, Mississippi and Ramstein, Germany before finishing up my active duty career at the Air Force Academy. Deploying to Afghanistan, teaching residents and working as the Internal Medicine Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General are some of the most memorable opportunities the military gave me to develop as a leader and clinician.

When I’m not working, I enjoy fishing, tennis, golf, soccer and getting my hands dirty in the garden. I feel lucky to live in Colorado Springs, and I’m passionate about our healthy and active community. I’m currently volunteering as the president for the Colorado Springs Adult Soccer League and I hope to keep playing as long as I can. My wife Cait and I are always looking forward to traveling, and we feel blessed to be the parents of our two amazing kids, Adelaide and Reed.

Clinical interest for patients

During my career I have spent time in the internal medicine clinic and rounding on the inpatient wards. I enjoy the breadth of being a general internist and appreciate being able to build relationships with patients. I have many areas of interest involving patient safety in both of these settings. Most recently, I've been involved with groups working to combat the opioid epidemic here in Colorado. I've spent time researching evidence-based, alternative treatment approaches and explored how we can incorporate these modalities in lieu of using opioids when possible. I've been practicing acupuncture for more than 10 years and look forward to studying integrated medicine in the future.

I believe health care providers are frequently faced with systems that need to be optimized in a way that sets providers up for success. I enjoy learning from the front line experts across the hospital and partnering with them to help make this happen.
