Who we are

LifeLine is the critical care transport arm of UCHealth EMS. LifeLine can transport your patients anytime, anywhere in the UCHealth system or to other facilities.

Our communication specialists work with you to coordinate dispatch and communication needs throughout each transport. We also work with communication centers in multiple states and keep accepting providers informed about your patient’s status.

Highly-trained medical response teams can quickly facilitate patient movement and tap in to air and ground assets staged across the state.

LifeLine clinical capabilities

Coordination of air and ground transportation is provided through the UCHealth LifeLine Communications Center, which is located at the UCHealth Administrative Building in Aurora.

  • LifeLine is staffed and available 24/7/365 to arrange your transport needs anytime, anywhere in the UCHealth system or to other facilities.

Patient preparation & stabilization prior to transport

  • Treat life threats. Ask:
    • Airway patent?
    • Breathing – does patient require intubation?
    • Circulation?
      • Intravenous, intraosseous or central line access? Two or more lines are ideal!
      • Need for blood pressure control?
      • Blood product replacement required?
      • All external bleeding controlled?
      • Immobilization:
        • Cervical spine?
        • Pelvis?
        • Extremities?
      • Disabilities?
        • Level of consciousness on arrival at your unit compared to arrival of transport crew?
        • Ability to move extremities, follow commands, orientation?
      • Current blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation?
      • Adequate pain control and sedation?
      • Height and weight of patient?
        • LifeLine will come to the bedside to assess patient for transport regardless of weight.
      • Any special equipment or medications?
        • High flow oxygenation
        • Obstetric monitoring
        • Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP – brand or model?)
        • Impella
        • Ventricular Assist Device (VAD – type or brand?)
        • Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
      • Any special medications that LifeLine needs to bring?
        • Kcentra – prothrombin complex concentrate (PCC)
        • DDAVP
        • TPA
      • Request for family member to accompany patient on transport?
      • Time is of the essence with critical care transport. Be ready to give a concise report that includes:
        • Events leading to hospitalization
        • Injuries or complaint
        • Treatments prior to transport team arrival

Helicopter and fixed-wing medical air transport

LifeLine currently utilizes five AirBus H125 helicopters operated by REACH Air Medical Services and one fixed-wing PC12 airplane operated by Guardian Air Medical Services. These aircraft are based at:

  • LifeLine 1 – UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado.
  • LifeLine 2 – UCHealth Memorial Central Hospital in Colorado Springs.
  • LifeLine 3 – Cheyenne, Wyoming.
  • LifeLine 4 – La Junta, Colorado.
  • LifeLine 5 – Pueblo, Colorado.
  • LifeLine 19 – Denver, Colorado.

These aircraft are configured with state-of-the-art medical equipment that includes Propaq MD-Series Cardiac Monitor/Defibrillators with invasive monitoring capabilities, Hamilton T-1 or Revel ventilators, CareFusion medication pumps, GE handheld ultrasound and LUCAS CPR devices.

Expert medical transport staff

We are capable of both high-acuity interfacility transport and scene response. All of our crews are trained to perform all aspects of advanced critical care interventions.

Our aircraft are staffed with extremely capable pilots as well as critical care flight RNs and critical care flight paramedics.

LifeLine helicopters respond in a 150-mile radius of our bases.

Critical care ground transport

Three state-of-the-art ground ambulances are available at all times for ground transport of critically ill and injured patients.

  • LifeLine 10 – UCHealth Peakview Medical Center in Greeley – operated by UCHealth
  • LifeLine 11 – UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora – operated by UCHealth
  • LifeLine 12 – UCHealth Memorial Central Hospital in Colorado Springs – operated by UCHealth

Our ground units respond to calls up to 250 miles away.

LifeLine is capable of transporting all critical care patients to include ECMO, LVAD, and Impella patients.

Our teams have extensive training in the care of adult and pediatric patients. They are highly capable in managing trauma, cardiac, neurological and other medical issues.

Public Notice

The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems will conduct an accreditation site visit of:

UCHealth LifeLine Critical Care Transport

On December 15 & 16 2022

The purpose of the site visit will be to evaluate the program’s compliance with nationally established medical transport standards. The site visit results will be used to determine whether, and the conditions under which accreditation should be awarded to the program.

CAMTS accreditation standards deal with issues of patient care and safety of the transport environment. Anyone believing that he or she has pertinent or valid information about such matters may request a public information interview with the CAMTS site surveyors at the time of the site visit. Information presented at the interview will be carefully evaluated for relevance to the accreditation process. Requests for public information interviews must be made in writing and sent to CAMTS no later than 10 business days before the site survey begins. The request should also indicate the nature of the information to be provided during the interview. Such request should be addressed to: [email protected]

The Commission will acknowledge such written requests in writing or by telephone and will inform the program of the request for an interview. The Commission will, in turn, notify the interviewee of the date, time and place of the meeting.

This notice is posted in accordance with CAMTS requirements and shall not be removed until the site visit is completed.
