My mother, my friend: daughter gives mom life-saving liver transplant

May 9, 2018

Lindsay and Vera were bonded more than just by their mother-daughter relationship; they both rode horses and shared a bond as riders. One night, Vera went to check on the horses and got a splinter. After noticing the wound wouldn’t heal, Vera saw a hepatologist and learned that she had a rare autoimmune disease called primary biliary cirrhosis and was at stage four liver failure. Her only option was a transplant. Her daughter, Lindsay, stepped up to give her mom the ultimate gift: a liver transplant. Lindsay’s live liver donation and her mom’s great outcome inspired Lindsay to help others and she is now a physician assistant at UCHealth.
