My first degree was obtained from Colorado State University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Biological Sciences while performing as an NCAA Division one athlete. The self-motivation and time management skillsets gained have been invaluable. After graduating, I pursued lung cancer research at Anschutz Medical Campus. I had the privilege to work with Dr. Robert Winn who was also Dean of Medical School at the time. I produced invivo data for targeting non-small cell lung cancer. The data was published in three different articles. I value the the importance of staying up to date on evidence-based research.

After spending two years in research, I wanted a profession where I had direct patient care. I graduated from Denver College of Nursing and was also a board member of Global Health Perspectives. This program gave me the opportunity to complete a clinical rotation in Honduras where I provided care in the first open heart pediatric surgery center in Honduras. I learned how impactful social determinants of health had on people’s health and quality of life. It has sparked an interest in continuing to find solutions to reduce health disparities.

Cumulatively, I have been a critical care nurse for almost ten years. I worked at Denver Health Medical Center and presently at Medical Center of the Rockies in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. I have enjoyed being able to care for complex patients with intra-aortic devices and post-op open heart surgery patients. I have valued learning how to perform thorough physical assessments, how to be an advocate for patients, how to deliver compassionate care and how to provide collaborative care with multidisciplinary teams.

It was in the CICU at MCR, I realized my calling was in the field of psychiatry. After observing the psychiatric consultation service at MCR, I had never been more confident to pursue a PMHNP degree. I graduated from Regis University with Master’s of Science in Nursing and obtained my board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

I am an outdoor enthusiast, a Colorado native and a mother of four. I have competed in a triathlon, a marathon and other short running events. My favorite outdoor passion is mountain biking, and will be starting a new adventure with cross-country skiing.
