Aurora, Colo. (Mar. 13, 2025) – UCHealth has been made aware that scammers are targeting Medicare beneficiaries, trying to charge them for services they didn’t receive.
Some Medicare beneficiaries have received Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements for services or medical equipment they never received. In many cases, fraudulent claims are being submitted without the beneficiary’s knowledge.
Suspicious charges have been identified from the following organizations:
- Almaz (NY)
- Sunshine Senior Solutions (FL)
These companies may be billing Medicare under your name without your consent. This type of fraud is part of a growing nationwide issue, where scammers gain access to Medicare numbers and submit false claims for reimbursement.
How to stay safe:
- Guard your Medicare number like a credit card—only share it with trusted health care providers.
- Hang up if you receive any unsolicited call asking for personal information.
- Calls may appear to come from a familiar phone number, like your doctor’s office. However, it may be someone impersonating your provider. If you need to verify the caller, hang up and call your contact directly using the phone number you know to be the correct one.
- Check your statements for charges you don’t recognize.
- Report suspected fraud to Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or your local Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP).
