Dr. Cooney joined Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies after completing a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute under the direction of renowned Dr. James R. Andrews. As a fellow, he participated in the care of athletes at all levels including several professional, college, and high school athletes. This unique fellowship has provided Dr. Cooney with extensive clinical and surgical experience in both athletic and non-athletic injuries of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. He applies the newest, least invasive, and most advanced techniques to facilitate earlier return to work or sport. Common conditions treated include rotator cuff tears, labral tears, shoulder instability, elbow stiffness, elbow instability, throwing related elbow ligament injuries, as well as complex ligament and meniscus injuries to the knee.
