I strive to develop a strong working relationship with each patient in order to provide the best possible individualized care. By placing the patient at the center of my approach, I aim for excellent patient satisfaction, focusing on respect for patient preferences, open communication, and collaboration to achieve the best outcome for each individual. I believe that patient education is a key component in providing quality care, which I put at the forefront of my approach.
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Go Steelers and Pens! I received my Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree at Kent State University (OH), but returned to Pittsburgh following graduation (2005) to begin my career as a Registered Nurse at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). I have dedicated my entire professional career to the care of surgical patients. I began my journey providing bedside care as a registered nurse in a surgical unit, caring for the daily needs of a variety of pre and post operative surgical patients during their hospitalization. I expanded on this experience by working in perianesthesia services, having a more direct relationship with the operating room by caring for patients in preoperative holding as well as both inpatient and outpatient recovery rooms. I quickly developed a desire to be directly involved in the clinical decision making process of the care of surgical patients which prompted my return to school for my Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh, where I graduated (2013) with my Nurse Practitioner degree with a focus in Adult Acute Care. From 2013-2021, I worked as a Nurse Practitioner within the Section of Colon & Rectal Surgery at the University of Chicago Medicine, providing and coordinating care for the inpatient Colon & Rectal Surgery Service. While my love for this role was strong, a consistent inner voice whispered, “The mountains are calling and I must go (~John Muir)” prompting our recent relocation to Fort Collins, Colorado, where I am excited to be part of the excellent team in General Surgery, with a focus in Bariatric Surgery. I married my husband, James, in Napa, CA in 2016. We have a beautiful daughter and are expecting our second daughter in September 2021.
