Helping patients feel better, prevent disease and accomplish their health-related goals is the reason I chose medicine as a career, and the reason I get up in the morning. I come from a long career in teaching and I feel that my background allows me to provide patients with the knowledge and skills to forge their optimal care plan. I am a firm believer in shared decision making as years of practice have taught me that patients are uniquely qualified to identify the care options best suited to their specific circumstances and needs. As an Internal Medicine and Pediatric provider, I love taking care of families, friends and caregivers, recognizing that every individual is part of a larger social network and those relationships influence every aspect of our well-being. Along that same line of thinking, I always enjoy learning about what makes patients tick: what are their occupations, hobbies, goals, pet peeves, etc. Most of all I love watching patients get better over time. I believe that all people are entitled to empathetic, evidence-based, high quality health care, and I look forward to helping provide that in Northern Colorado.
I am originally from North Carolina, and still consider myself mostly Tar Heel. I have spent a lot of time in the Southeast, and love the outdoors and sports in all seasons. My wife Melissa and I met in medical school, and we have two wonderful and brilliant young adult sons. I am an extraordinarily average guitarist and am working hard to finally become fluent in Spanish. We love animals (as evidenced by our three dogs and two cats), love skiing, and are thrilled to be back in a climate with four seasons after 10 years in Florida.
