My philosophy of patient care is to focus on an individual as a whole person not just the illness or disease. I believe in a partnership with my patients. We must work together to achieve common goals such as treating an infection, to managing a chronic illness, as well as incorporating survivorship (wellness and preventative care) into one’s lifestyle. Because of this, I take every step possible to provide patient education, explain symptom management, and what complications might arise. I believe active listening helps focus on understanding and addressing the patients concern in each unique situation. When the patient has an understanding of their condition and the treatment, they are ready to manage their own healthcare. Since I consider this a partnership, I try to put myself in the shoes of the patient and speak to them as I would like to be spoken to to help establish a level of trust and openness in the provider-patient relationship. There is also equal ownership and responsibility in negotiating a plan to ensure the course of action can be followed and the responsibility of myself collaborating with other healthcare professionals to facilitate the best practice and yield more positive outcomes.
I enjoy outdoor actives such as hiking, skiing, and camping. I also enjoy traveling to increase knowledge, understanding, and experience what the world has to offer including broadening the culinary horizons. 🙂
