Research interest for patients

Dr. Douin’s research focuses on epidemiological and clinical trials involving critically ill patients, with particular emphasis on oxygen delivery, blood transfusion strategies, and trauma care. He served as co-principal investigator for the multicenter SAVE-O2 trials that assessed the effects of a targeted normoxemia strategy for critically ill trauma and burn patients. He was also the co-PI for the multicenter SAVE-O2 AI trial investigating autonomous oxygen titration for acutely ill patients.

Currently, Dr. Douin is the scientific lead and co-PI for the multicenter EFFECT clinical trial assessing the role of early fibrinogen replacement for critically ill trauma patients with major hemorrhage. His work is supported by funding from the NIH, the Department of Defense, and Octapharma USA.
