I have a deep faith in the human capacity for healing and resilience. In my view, health is impossible without attending to both the mind and the body, the individual and the community.

My goal is to accept my patients where they are, to communicate with candor and compassion, and to partner with them to move in a direction of healthier, longer life (when possible), greater peace of mind, and less suffering.

I believe in team-based care, recognizing that even the most high-functioning team cannot achieve desired ends when a patient isn’t making a genuine, consistent effort to good care of themselves. I work best with patients who take this responsibility seriously.

I strive to maintain an open mind, but embrace reason and the scientific method as the best approach, in most situations, to both identify and solve problems as well as maintain and improve health.

My patients can expect me to be present during visits, to listen actively, to solicit and respect their values, to be good-humored, and to work hard to earn and keep their trust.

I enjoy being in the company of family and friends, being physically active outdoors, listening to music and traveling.
