My goal is to empower patients to make informed health care choices through shared decision making. I place an emphasis on biological science and evidence based medicine. As a primary care specialist and family physician I value comprehensive care not limited to certain ages, one gender or organ systems. Primary care involves both wellness care and disease care. Medical care must be delivered with empathy and compassion.

I served 12 years in the United States Army as a physician, achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and served a year in South Korea supervising health care for the 2nd Infantry Division. I am a graduate of the Army’s Faculty Development Fellowship, and was a residency program director in charge of the Army’s Family Medicine Residency Program at Fort Cavazos, TX. Since 2007 I have served as the Routt County Public Health Medical Officer. Hospital medicine has been a important part of my medical career in addition to my outpatient clinical practice. I enjoy sports, fishing and hunting, and the outdoor recreation opportunities that our area provides. Vocal music, including some professional singing, has been a part of my life since a young age and I very much value the fine arts. My wife, now a retired orthopedic surgeon, and I moved to Steamboat Springs in 2005 and raised our four children in Steamboat Springs.
