Richard D. Zane, MD

Dr. Richard Zane serves as chief medical officer and chief innovation officer of UCHealth, a nationally recognized, nonprofit health care system with operating revenue of $9 billion and a workforce of more than 35,000 people. In this dual role, Dr. Zane oversees UCHealth’s clinical, quality and safety programs, working collaboratively with operational leaders and partners from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and UCHealth Medical Group to deliver exceptional patient care and drive continuous innovation.

UCHealth includes 14 Colorado hospitals, including the state’s only academic medical center, with over 2,500 inpatient beds and more than 200 clinic locations in Colorado, southern Wyoming and western Nebraska.

Before taking the role of chief medical officer, Dr. Zane was the George B. Boedecker, Jr. and Boedecker Foundation Professor and Chair of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He joined UCHealth and the University of Colorado in 2012, following his tenure as associate professor and vice chair of the department of emergency medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He also served as medical director for MDConnect, the Partners Healthcare patient access, transfer, and transport system.

Dr. Zane attended Temple University School of Medicine and went on to specialty training in emergency medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
