Simple steps to prevent a stroke

  • Get active: Walking for 15 minutes each day can help promote healthy blood pressure.
  • Fiber up: Getting an additional 7g of fiber each day can help keep a healthy weight and reduce buildup in blood vessels.
  • Stop smoking: Tobacco usage accelerates clot formation by thickening blood and increasing plaque buildup in arteries.
  • Eat smart: A diet rich in brain-healthy snacks like walnuts, avocados and other omega-3 boosting foods can reduce the risk of stroke.

Stroke signs & symptoms

Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and the primary cause of permanent disability in the United States. Unfortunately, only a small percentage of Americans can recognize the signs of stroke. Let’s change that. Minutes matter when the first symptoms of stroke appear. Getting care within three hours of experiencing your first symptom means you have a much better chance of making a full recovery. Knowing how to recognize the symptoms can save a life. Watch the “BE FAST” video below. Charity Home Run Derby

Batting practice means a lot more when it has purpose. On May 10th, 2017, a collection of noteable Colorado athletes, past and present stepped up to the plate in the UCHealth Healthy Swings home run derby. In this competition, each hit was worth a donation to the National Stroke Association (NSA). At the end of the event, a total of $35,600 was raised to support the NSA’s mission.
