UCHealth is extending its implementation of Duo multifactor authentication beyond its current scope of e-PCS workflow in Epic.

It is currently being piloted and will soon be enabled for all staff and affiliates using the MyApps.uchealth.org Citrix portal for remote access. When working remotely, such as from home and other affiliate locations that are not on the internal UCHealth network, MyApps will require Duo multifactor authentication.

Why are we using Duo?

Login credentials are more valuable than ever and are increasingly easy to compromise. Over 90% of breaches today involve compromised usernames and passwords, and UCHealth is an enticing target to bad actors.

Two-factor authentication enhances the security of your account by using a secondary device to verify your identity. This prevents anyone but you from accessing your account, even if they know your password.

What is Duo multifactor authentication?

Multifactor authentication is probably something you are familiar with already, as many financial and other services you use in everyday life might require it now. It can come in the form of text messages containing a code you have to enter in, a callback, or other mechanisms.

What makes Duo special is the highly preferred “Push” notification you can receive on your mobile phone. You will simply need to tap the “Approve” button to finish your authentication.
