Tips for saliva collection.

  • For 30 minutes prior to collection, do not wear lipstick or lip balm, eat or drink, smoke, chew tobacco or gum, brush your teeth or use mouthwash.
  • Do not remove the plastic film from the funnel lid.
  • Spit into the funnel until the amount of liquid saliva (not bubbles) reaches the fill line.
  • It takes most people between 2–5 minutes to complete a saliva sample.
  • If your mouth is dry, rub the outside of your cheek softly using your finger, make chewing motions, imagine or smell sour foods, such as lemon, or think about your favorite food.

When you're ready to mail your sample back.

  • Place the capped sample in the specimen bag provided and seal it firmly; do not remove the absorbent pad.
  • Place the bagged sample back into the clear plastic carton. The funnel and instruction sheet can be discarded.
  • With the clear plastic carton sealed, place in the box and stick the pre-paid return-postage label to the exterior of the box. Completely cover, remove or cross out the original postage label.
  • Ensure the sample is inside the box and the postage is on the exterior of the box, then expose the adhesive strip on the inside of the box by removing the "PEEL HERE" backer. Close the box and press to seal.
  • Drop the box in a mailbox or bring it to the nearest postal location.
