In our family, there have been times when money was tight,” Fatima said. “Not having to purchase car seats allowed us to use those savings for other essentials, such as diapers, baby wipes and groceries. The price may vary depending on the brand and features.

This year, leaders at La Familia have seen increased demand for child safety seats, which may be due in part to families’ limited financial resources and the rising cost of living, said Hilda Yanez, family development coordinator and certified child passenger safety technician at The Family Center/La Familia.

In the event of a car crash, children and babies are better protected if they are placed in a car seat or booster seat. However, many families lack the resources to purchase a car seat or booster.

“For many years, we have helped keep babies and young children safe on the road thanks to the support of UCHealth and Safe Kids Northern Colorado,” said Gloria Kat, executive director of The Family Center/La Familia. “On average, our certified bilingual child passenger safety technicians provide car seat safety education and distribute more than 75 car seats each year to families in need.”

This work helps ensure that more children travel safely while giving parents and caregivers the knowledge and confidence to protect their families.

‘‘At The Family Center/La Familia, we are deeply committed to the well-being of children and families.
