Experts will be sharing the most recent research and information about diabetes management to help people with diabetes take control of their condition at the annual Fall Diabetes Community Update on Nov. 12, 2017.<\/p>\n

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Fort Collins Senior Center<\/a>, 1200 Raintree Drive. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. It is sponsored by the Center for Diabetes at UCHealth.<\/p>\n

(Note: This is an annual event so call the number below for this year’s info.)<\/strong><\/h5>\n

More than 29 million Americans \u2013 or 9.3 percent of the population \u2013 have diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association\u2019s 2012 figures. About 8.1 million of those people have not been diagnosed yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year, we want to provide quality information to help our attendees live well with diabetes because it can be a lot of work. The Community Update event gives them a chance to ask questions and be challenged and encouraged with new information,\u201d said Susan Stauffer, registered nurse with the UCHealth Diabetes and Medical Nutrition Therapy – Fort Collins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The keynote speaker at the Community Update will be Dr. J. Cade Christensen, who will be speaking about preventing diabetic foot complications.<\/p>\n

This year’s expert panel includes endocrinologist Dr. Meriam Izon, cardiologist Dr. Patrick Green and periodontist Dr. Dave Johnson. Attendees will have a chance to ask questions during the panel session, Stauffer said.<\/p>\n

The event costs $15, and each person with diabetes may bring a support person for free. Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is preferred. To register, call 970.495.8205.<\/p>\n

In addition to the presentations and opportunity to visit with a dietitian and vendors at this year\u2019s Community Update, several people who have successfully managed diabetes for many years will be recognized with the Journey Awards, which are sponsored by Lilly Diabetes.<\/p>\n

The Community Update event is just one of the services offered through the Center for Diabetes to help children and adults learn how to manage diabetes and prevent complications. The center also offers small group classes, one-on-one counseling, blood glucose testing and training, meal planning assistance, medical nutrition therapy, insulin pump training and 72-hour continuous glucose monitoring.<\/p>\n
