An even stronger yes.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to UCHealth, additional funds are available to support and address these critical needs and others.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>A significant investment in programs supporting health<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/today\/yampa-valley-medical-center-is-now-part-of-uchealth\/\">partnership<\/a> established between UCHealth and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/locations\/uchealth-yampa-valley-medical-center\/\">Yampa Valley Medical Center<\/a> (YVMC) in 2017, the Steamboat Springs community and YVMC benefitted from investments of more than $105 million from UCHealth, including a $20 million contribution to <a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yvmcf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yampa Valley Medical Center Foundation<\/a> (YVMCF).<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/today\/community-health-benefit-fund-to-support-advancement-of-health-in-northwest-colorado\/\">Community Health Benefit Fund<\/a> (CHBF), the name given to the funds YVMCF received from UCHealth, was established in 2019 and split equally between two purposes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Annual grant funds for the advancement of health in the communities served by YVMC, including population health initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Special initiatives for the benefit of programs, services and capital projects within or related to YVMC operations and activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_67176\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67176\" style=\"width: 245px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-67176\" src=\"https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/02091637\/Fidler-Soniya-web.webp\" alt=\"Soniya Fidler\" width=\"245\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/02091637\/Fidler-Soniya-web.webp 245w, https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/02091637\/Fidler-Soniya-web-219x300.webp 219w, https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/02091637\/Fidler-Soniya-web-109x150.webp 109w, https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/02091637\/Fidler-Soniya-web-200x274.webp 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-67176\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Soniya Fidler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThanks to the generosity of UCHealth and the work of YVMC\u2019s local leaders and trustees, there are now significant grant dollars available for health-focused nonprofits in our communities,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/today\/soniya-fidler-named-president-of-uchealth-yampa-valley-medical-center\/\">Soniya Fidler<\/a>, president of YVMC. \u201cBy working together and supporting select nonprofits with grant funds, we have the opportunity to improve lives in a much greater way.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Making a difference in Steamboat Springs communities<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Since the inaugural year in 2020, more than 40 grants have been awarded, totaling $940,000.<\/p>\n<p>Lindsay Kohler, executive director at Partners in Routt County, anticipates approximately 150 youth in Routt and Moffat counties will be supported by programing funded by their CHBF grant, with another 150 youth being reached through safe and sober events planned by Youth Action Councils. Additionally, 50 to 100 adults in Routt and Moffat counties will be impacted through their Strengthening Families Program and via Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-callout-box col-xs-12 col-sm-6 right\" style=\"background-color:#dce4e7; color:#2e3b44;\">\n<p><strong>Nonprofits in Routt and Moffat counties that have received at least one grant from the Community Health Benefit Fund<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/advocatesrc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advocates of Routt County<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/bettertomorrowco.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Better Tomorrow<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/bgcnwc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boys &amp; Girls Club of Northwest Colorado<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/steamboatsprings.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">City of Steamboat Springs<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.connections4kids.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Connections 4 Kids<\/a><\/li>\n<li>GrandKids Child Care Center<\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/grandfutures.org\/programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grand Futures Prevention Coalition<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heelingfriends.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heeling Friends<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/horizonsnwc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Horizons Specialized Services<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ciiccolorado.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Integrated Community<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/liftuprc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LiftUp Routt County<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mindspringshealth.org\/steamboat-springs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mind Springs Health<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nwcci.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northwest Colorado Center for Independence<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/northwestcoloradohealth.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northwest Colorado Health<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/partnersyouth.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Partners in Routt County<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planned Parenthood<\/a> \u2013 Steamboat Springs Health Center<\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/nwcosuicideprevention.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide (REPS)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rccoaging.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Routt County Council on Aging<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/routtcountycrisissupport.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Routt County Crisis Support<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Steamboat Montessori<\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/thehealthpartnership.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Health Partnership<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/townofoakcreek.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Town of Oak Creek<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/yampavalleyautism.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yampa Valley Autism Program<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAfter hearing presentations on the prevalence of fentanyl in our communities, the Steamboat Springs Youth Action Council decided to take action,\u201d said Kohler. \u201cAfter receiving training, they\u2019re now working to train Steamboat Springs School District staff on the signs of an overdose and how to administer naloxone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/liftuprc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LiftUp Routt County<\/a> has a health care and prescription fund that allows LiftUp to provide financial assistance to Routt County residents who need help paying for medical, dental or prescription needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReceiving a Community Health Benefit Fund grant is critical to our ability to meet the financial needs of our neighbors who are unable to afford a needed medical or dental treatment, dental procedure or even transportation to a medical appointment,\u201d said Sue Fegelein, executive director of LiftUp Routt County. \u201cThese funds directly serve our neighbors in their time of need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dana Duran, executive director of <a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/bgcnwc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boys &amp; Girls Club of Northwest Colorado<\/a>, and the BGC staff work tirelessly to help young people develop skills and tools to increase resiliency, self-esteem, coping and decision-making skills while decreasing substance abuse now and into the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur clubs have been able to implement SMART moves programming, thanks to the grant from the Community Health Benefit Fund,\u201d said Duran. \u201cIt is designed to assist young people as they gain skills to delay experimentation, increase refusal skills and develop healthy decision-making skills.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Funding available for years to come to support Steamboat Springs communities<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Thanks to the decision made by the CHBF task force to treat the annual grant funds as a quasi-endowment, funding will be available to support the community and its population health initiatives in perpetuity.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66928\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66928\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66928 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/11\/18110655\/SSTC-Outdoor-Movie-Night-3sized-300x225.webp\" alt=\"Members of the Steamboat Springs Teen Action Council, sponsored by Partners in Routt County, recently hosted a movie night. Photo courtesy Partners in Routt County.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To qualify for the annual grant funds, organizations have to be an existing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, located within Routt and\/or Moffat counties and align to the funding priorities as outlined in YVMC\u2019s most recent Community Health Needs Assessment. Since the inception of the CHBF, the funding priorities have been to provide access to health care, mental health and substance use disorder.<\/p>\n<p>The special initiatives funds are earmarked for larger projects that have the opportunity to effect lasting change in the communities served by YVMC.<\/p>\n<p>The grant cycle will open again on Jan. 1, 2023, with up to $300,000 in grants available to nonprofits focused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen grants are awarded in 2023, we will have contributed over $1 million to nonprofits working to improve access to health care, mental health and substance use disorder,\u201d said Karen Schneider, executive director of YVMCF. \u201cThis really is the tip of the iceberg.
