In the last seven days, the hospital has seen a trend of rising hospitalizations. In early June, fewer than a half-dozen people were hospitalized at UCHealth hospitals in southern Colorado. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/locations\/uchealth-university-of-colorado-hospital-uch\/\">UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital<\/a> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/locations\/uchealth-at-university-of-colorado-anschutz-medical-campus\/\">Anschutz Medical Campus<\/a> is also caring for about 30 patients who have tested positive or are awaiting test results.<\/p>\n<p>At UCHealth hospitals across Colorado, about 80 patients are hospitalized after testing positive or awaiting results for COVID-19. At the peak of the outbreak in the spring, UCHealth had an estimated 244 patients hospitalized with confirmed infections.<\/p>\n<p>As the number of people testing positive for the virus that causes COVID-19 rises in many states across the country, some municipalities have reversed previous efforts to open business and have required those with indoor operations to close again.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-33471 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/07\/03100819\/UCHealth-covid-cases-2020-08-01-tiny-e1596470929916.webp\" alt=\"UCHealth historic covid-19 cases\" width=\"650\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/07\/03100819\/UCHealth-covid-cases-2020-08-01-tiny-e1596470929916.webp 650w, https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/07\/03100819\/UCHealth-covid-cases-2020-08-01-tiny-e1596470929916-300x171.webp 300w, https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/07\/03100819\/UCHealth-covid-cases-2020-08-01-tiny-e1596470929916-150x86.webp 150w, https:\/\/uchealth-wp-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/07\/03100819\/UCHealth-covid-cases-2020-08-01-tiny-e1596470929916-200x114.webp 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/>Slowing the spread of the novel coronavirus will help strengthen Colorado\u2019s economy and keep businesses open.\u00a0 Infectious disease experts recommend the following safety measures for slowing the coronavirus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wash your hands often with soap and water<\/li>\n<li>Practice physical distancing by staying 6 feet away from others<\/li>\n<li>Avoid large gatherings<\/li>\n<li>Wear a mask in public<\/li>\n<li>Stay home when sick<\/li>\n<li>Stay home as much as possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWe all have a stake in keeping the virus at bay,\u2019\u2019 Steinbruner said. \u201cWe can\u2019t let it rob us of our health, our businesses and our economy, our social connections and our sense of community.<\/p>\n<p>Reduced social distancing and increasing travel might be helping transmit the virus to others. It\u2019s also important to monitor yourself for any symptoms of COVID-19. UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital will soon enroll patients in the first large-scale U.S. clinical trial of a coronavirus vaccine. The phase 3 study of Moderna\u2019s experimental vaccine will include 1,000 people at University of Colorado Hospital. Another 30,000 patients nationwide will participate in the trial, which is slated to start this summer.
