After noticing the wound wouldn&#8217;t heal, Vera saw a hepatologist and learned that she had a rare autoimmune disease called primary biliary cirrhosis and was at stage four liver failure. Her only option was a transplant. Her daughter, Lindsay, stepped up to give her mom the ultimate\u00a0gift: a liver transplant. Lindsay&#8217;s live liver donation and her mom&#8217;s great outcome inspired Lindsay to help others and she is now a physician assistant at UCHealth.
