Eight providers join UCHealth teams in northern Colorado

New caregivers boost access to specialty care ranging from family medicine to general surgery

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Nov. 7, 2017) – Eight new providers joined UCHealth teams in northern Colorado in September, increasing access to health care from Longmont to Fort Collins.

Their specialties range from family medicine to general surgery, and all of the providers will be caring for patients as part of UCHealth Medical Group.

Dr. Christian Dennis

Dr. Christian Dennis joined the team at UCHealth Surgical Clinic – Harmony, 2121 E. Harmony Road, Suite 330, Fort Collins.

Dennis believes in shared decision-making with his patients. He views his role as both counselor and provider. “In working with patients, I strive to provide sound advice from which my patients can make health decisions that fit with their health goals and personal beliefs,” he said.

He is particularly interested in hernia repair, reflux treatment, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, benign and malignant bowel conditions, sepsis management, trauma care and critical care. He also is especially interested in research on sepsis and trauma resuscitation.

Dennis earned a medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. He also completed a general surgery residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, and a surgical critical care fellowship at Washington University of St. Louis in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Rebecca Shtulman

Dr. Rebecca Shtulman joined the team at UCHealth Neurology Clinic – Fort Collins, 2315 E. Harmony Road, Suite 110, Fort Collins.

Specializing in neuropsychology, Shtulman believes every patient has a unique story.

“If we really listen to the stories we are told, we can help our patients and their families understand their own cognitive and emotional strengths and weaknesses and help them move forward,” she said.

She is particularly interested in memory disorders, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, post-stroke care, multiple sclerosis and pre-and post-surgical evaluations. She also is interested in research in the residual effects of traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s-related dementia and caregiver support and outcomes.

Shtulman earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Francisco, California.

Benjamin Miceli

Physician assistant Benjamin Miceli also joined the team at UCHealth Neurology Clinic – Fort Collins.

He strives to create a partnership with patients and their families as well as other providers as they all work together in pursuit of better health and quality of life.

Miceli is particularly interested in migraines, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s diseases and multiple sclerosis.

He earned a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine at Fort Sam Houston in Texas and Fort Sill in Oklahoma.

Magan Hays

Adult and gerontological nurse practitioner Magan Hays joined the palliative care team at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland and UCHealth Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins.

She strives to improve and enhance the quality of life of patients and their families with serious, life-threatening illnesses through complex symptom management and emotional support. Her goal is to provide a holistic approach to caring that encompasses physiological, psychological and spiritual aspects of patient care while maintaining dignity and hope.

She is particularly interested in inpatient and outpatient palliative medicine and end-of-life care. She also is especially interested in research on pain and symptom management and increasing knowledge related to impact of palliative care in the community.

Hays earned a master’s degree from University of Colorado in Denver.

Dr. Jessica Walker

Dr. Jessica Walker joined the team at UCHealth Family Medicine Clinic at Longmont Clinic. 1925 W. Mountain View Ave.

As a physician, she believes her job is to not only help manage illness or disease, but to give patients the tools and strategies to maintain their health. As a primary care provider, she has the unique ability to follow patients and their families over time, to get to know their medical history and to use this information to help manage and hopefully prevent chronic medical issues down the road.

She is particularly passionate about preventive care and enjoys helping patients make lifestyle changes that can lead to better health. She also likes women’s health including gynecology and adolescent medicine.

Walker earned a medical degree from University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora. She also completed a family medicine residency at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver.

Kristen Mangione

Physician assistant Kristen Mangione joined the team at UCHealth Urgent Care Clinic at Carbon Valley Medical Center, 11083 Colorado Blvd., Firestone.

She uses a team approach to meet patients where they are at in life to help them achieve their health care goals while ensuring they understand the diagnosis, treatment and expectations of outcomes.

She is particularly interested in urgent care, primary care, pediatrics, psychiatry, substance use disorders, geriatrics, palliative care and hospice care.

Mangione earned physician assistant certificate from Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood and a master’s degree from Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.

Physician assistant Mary Nguyen also joined the team at UCHealth Urgent Care Clinic at Carbon Valley Medical Center.

Mary Nguyen

She loves working in the urgent care environment because of the variety of cases she sees every day. She is especially interested in wound repair and treating orthopedic injuries.

Nguyen earned a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Salus University in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania.
