Longmont woman gives birth to baby boy in enhanced birth center at community's new hospital

LONGMONT, Colo. (Sept. 2, 2017) – Adam and Jennifer Kiefer of Longmont are the proud parents of the first baby born at the newly opened UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital.

Xavier Kiefer was born at 8:31 a.m. Friday. He weighed 6 pounds and 15 ounces and measured 20 inches.

“I love this hospital already,” Jennifer Kiefer said. “Everybody has been so kind since I stepped in here.”

Being the first baby born in a hospital definitely has its perks.

On Saturday morning, mom and baby had a surprise visit from a group of care providers. Dr. Heidi Pomfret, an obstetrician-gynecologist, lead the group into the room, wheeling in a large red Radio Flyer wagon full of goodies from physicians, midwives, nurses and staff members who care for patients at the hospital. The special package included the following:

The 210,000-square-foot hospital at 1750 E. Ken Pratt Blvd. in Longmont officially opened Thursday morning with 51 inpatient beds and room to grow.

In addition to the birth center, Longs Peak Hospital features include an intensive care unit, four operating rooms, a Level III trauma center and emergency department, advanced cardiac services, a special care nursery, a café, a gift shop, 24/7 retail pharmacy, radiology and laboratory services, a meditation room and a courtyard.
