Four experts join UCHealth teams, expanding access to advanced care

New providers offer expertise in pulmonology, internal medicine, urgent care and general surgery in northern Colorado

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (June 13, 2017) – Four new providers joined UCHealth teams in northern Colorado in May, boosting access to care in Longmont and Loveland.

Dr. J. David Cowden joined the pulmonology and critical care medicine team that will be caring for patients when UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital, 1750 E. Ken Pratt Blvd., Longmont, opens in late summer.

His philosophy is to provide the best patient care and respect for every patient and family, one at a time.

Cowden’s clinical interests include complex cardiopulmonary physiology, multidisciplinary care coordination and interventional pulmonary procedures. He is especially interested in research on population health, sepsis and interventional bronchoscopy techniques.

Cowden earned a medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Mich., and a master’s degree in epidemiology from The University of Iowa School of Public Health in Iowa City, Iowa. He completed a residency in internal medicine at University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor and served as chief resident in the department of internal medicine at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. He also served a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Dr. Wendy Carle

Dr. Wendy Carle joined the internal medicine team at UCHealth Longmont Clinic, 1925 W. Mountain View Ave.

She works collaboratively with patients to achieve better health and quality of life.

Carle focuses on preventive care, promoting healthy habits and helping patients take control of their own health, including treatment of asthma, diabetes, hypertension and other chronic medical conditions.

She earned a medical degree from University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She completed an internship and residency in a combined program of internal medicine and pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Dr. Trevor Bush joined the team at UCHealth Urgent Care – Loveland at 3850 Grant St., Suite 200.

He applies the latest evidence-based guidelines using his skills, experience, judgment and advanced diagnostic technologies to each circumstance or situation.

Bush is interested in urgent and emergent care as well as broad-spectrum family medicine. His research interests include qualitative analysis of decision making in avalanche terrain and ski patrol patient care protocol development.

Bush earned a medical degree from University of Colorado School of Medicine. He also completed a residency in family medicine at North Colorado Family Medicine in Greeley.

Physician assistant Leah Kunard joined the trauma and acute care surgery team at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies at 2500 Rocky Mountain Ave., Loveland.

Kunard is interested in general surgery, trauma and acute surgery and critical care medicine.

She earned a master’s degree from Northeastern University in Boston.
