Colorado's health care leaders say they are more than ready for a state proposal to ease the number of slaps, kicks, bites and other instances of violence that practitioners have endured more frequently since the pandemic. Yet when state lawmakers discussed a proposal that takes aim at violence against health care workers at its first committee hearing on Feb. 27, a number of those health care organizations — most of them hospitals — spoke against it. …Christopher Powell, the chief security officer at UCHealth, told lawmakers that the reporting requirements are duplicative and an added burden for the same frontline employees that the bill should be supporting. “This bill is a replication of Joint Commission requirements, which we are already beholden to," Powell said. "We have committees. We have done these things. We want more.”
