KKTV-TV | UCHealth Parkview in Pueblo brings in lung biopsy robot to help detect disease earlier
Patients in Southern Colorado being tested for lung diseases have access to a new tool designed to reach areas of the lung that were previously difficult or impossible to sample. At UCHealth Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, pulmonologist Dr. Joshiah Gordon is using the Ion robotic bronchoscopy system, technology he says helps the hospital deliver “premier level” care. “They survive with better quality of life. We’re at high altitude. So, oxygen is always an issue when you resect to the lung,” Gordon said. “The smaller we can get these nodules diagnosed, the better the outcome.” UCHealth said its diagnosis rates are now above 90%, compared to at or below 80% with prior technology.
