University of Colorado Health (UCHealth) is committed to caring for our patients, regardless of their financial circumstances. We work hard to help address our patients' financial responsibilities in a way that is sensitive and fair to their circumstances.
Per Colorado State Senate Bill 12-134, uninsured patients who meet eligibility requirements are qualified to be screened for financial assistance. CICP (Colorado Indigent Care Program) and Medicaid recipients do not qualify for this program.
If you are an uninsured patient and need assistance with your medical bill, please call our Customer Service Department, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 866-429-6045.
Who is automatically eligible for financial assistance?
A qualified patient, as defined in the law, must meet the following criteria:
- The individual must be uninsured
- Family income must be 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) or less. (Example: for a family of four, this is equal to an annual household income of $57,625 or less for 2012.)
- The services provided must not be eligible for discount under the Colorado Indigent Care Program (CICP).
Financial assistance is not considered to be a substitute for personal responsibility. Patients are expected to cooperate with University of Colorado Hospital procedures for obtaining other forms of payment or financial assistance, and to contribute to the cost of their care based on their individual ability to pay.
