But of course learning that your baby has a cleft lip or palate is a very troubling development. Rest assured that our entire team of specially trained and experienced cleft specialists is here for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Located in the Children\u2019s Therapy Services office just south of Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, the Cleft Clinic is made up of a multidisciplinary team that is dedicated to caring for these unique patients. The nationally recognized team was established in 1997.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Children born with cleft lip and\/or palate are often followed through to adulthood by their cleft team. In addition to regular appointments, such as speech therapy, the children typically come to the Cleft Clinic for an annual appointment, where they see all their specialists in one visit. The team assesses their development and addresses any ongoing needs. One in 68 children are on the autism spectrum, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diagnosing can start as early as two years old. They use play-based therapy to evaluate and treat your child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your child\u2019s therapy team may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"music-therapists\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Music therapists<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The music therapist leads groups, using musical activities to focus on arm and leg strength, coordination and balance and\/or to work with hands, learn body awareness, and to practice speech and social skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"occupational-therapists-and-cotas\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Occupational therapists and COTAs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our OTs provide services related to fine motor impairment, emotional and behavioral concerns, hypersensitivities, self-care activities, feeding, executive functioning skills, and mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"physical-therapists\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Physical therapists<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our PTs help children who have problems moving and performing other physical activities. They treat injuries, pre-existing conditions and problems caused by illnesses or diseases. Additionally, our PTs recommend medical equipment as well as provide treatment for neurological and orthopedic disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"speech-language-pathologists\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speech-language pathologists<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our SLPs provide services related to speech (articulation, phonology and apraxia of speech) and language disorders.
