Shoulders

Stay out of the operating room and still get back in the game.

Minimally invasive surgery is even more effective than open surgery, and we use it in 90% of all rotator cuff surgeries we perform. We’ll start with physical therapy and other initial treatments, but if that’s not enough for your case, we’ll treat you with advanced procedures that are safer and will likely result in less scarring than traditional surgery. Best of all, it’s a faster rebound for you.

What you should expect.

You probably have questions. Our goal is to address your questions and get you in and out as painlessly as possible. Your first visit will be a simple evaluation. To get a better understanding of your condition, your physical therapist will ask you questions including:

  • How did your pain begin?
  • What makes you feel better or worse?
  • What activities are you unable to do?
  • Does anything else add to your pain?

Please wear loose-fitting clothes so your PT can easily see how you move. Your PT will walk you through a number of assessments, including, but not limited to:

  • Range of motion
  • Flexibility
  • Strength
  • Functional movement (pushing, pulling, lifting)
  • Palpation (your PT uses his/her hands to assess structures around the joint and feel for abnormalities)
  • Additional tests to evaluate the joint.

Following your evaluation, your PT will develop a treatment plan involving manual therapy and exercise to address any problems.

Manual therapy could include:

  • Assisted stretching
  • Dry needling
  • Joint mobilization
  • Soft-tissue massage
  • Taping

Exercises could include:

  • Mobility
  • Flexibility
  • Muscle activation
  • Strengthening

As your pain decreases and your movement improves, your PT will work with you to tailor your program to get you performing at your best.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a revolutionary procedure that uses components of the body’s own blood cells to stimulate the natural healing process in certain orthopedic conditions.

The body’s first response to any soft tissue injury (ligaments and tendons) is to deliver platelet cells. Filled with healing and growth factors, platelets jump-start the repair process and attract the essential aid of stem cells. PRP therapy’s natural healing process accelerates the body’s efforts by delivering a higher concentration of platelets through a simple injection. It provides effective pain relief and faster healing and can eliminate the need for surgery and prolonged recovery.

PRP therapy is showing promising results with osteoarthritis of the knee, shoulder, hip and spine, as well as rotator cuff tears, chronic plantar fasciitis, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, tennis elbow, ankle sprains, tendonitis and ligament sprains.

PRP therapy is offered at our Lone Tree office by Dr. James Genuario. Please visit our patient education library to learn more about PRP therapy.

State-of-the-art surgical suites are equipped with the most advanced instruments and technology. The surgical suites are also staffed with caring, compassionate nurses who assist our physicians during surgery and monitor patients in the recovery room. All surgical scheduling is done by your physician’s medical assistant.
