Richard Zane, MD is the George B. Boedecker Professor and chair of the University of Colorado School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine, professor of health administration at the University of Colorado Denver Business School, and UCHealth\u2019s chief innovation officer.<\/p>\n
As chief innovation officer for UCHealth, Dr. Zane focuses on development of novel industry and venture relationships to bring innovative solutions to health care. By partnering with companies from of all sizes, and using the power of data science, remote monitoring and prescriptive intelligence, he is fundamentally altering and improving health care delivery.<\/p>\n
Dr. Zane completed medical school at Temple University followed by emergency medicine residency training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Following residency, he joined Johns Hopkins as assistant chief of service. In 1998, he joined the faculty of Harvard University Medical School and Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n
While at Harvard, with funding from the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research, Department of Homeland Security and assistant secretary for preparedness and response, he formed industry partnerships to develop tools for preparedness and response to mass casualty care and disaster. These tools are used domestically and across the globe.<\/p>\n
In 2012, he joined the CU School of Medicine and University of Colorado Hospital as inaugural chair of the department of emergency medicine where he led a massive redesign of emergency services, which led to dramatic improvements in quality, experience and cost.<\/p>\n
Dr. Zane is widely published in peer reviewed publications and his work featured in the Harvard Business Review and Wall Street Journal.
