If you’re living with advanced heart failure, a ventricular assist device (VAD) can provide mechanical circulation support. The implanted device helps the lower chambers (ventricles) of your heart pump blood throughout your body.
VADs may be used as a:
- Short-term solution while you recover from surgery
- Bridge to transplant (BTT) while waiting for a new heart
- Permanent implant, known as Destination Therapy (DT), for long-term pumping help
When you become part of the UCHealth heart care family, you gain access to our extensive support services for people with ventricular assist devices. In addition to educational materials and presentations, you have 24/7 contact with us through our telephone-based pager system, and we can arrange to visit you at home.
